Our goals are to create a fully functional Haiku Operating System based NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, which can be used headless and operated remotely by a web interface.
Features
- Easy to Use and Setup. Just run the installer on Haiku and Reboot.
- Low Footprint - OS takes a couple of hundred MBs space.
- Low Power - due to it's multithreaded nature and task scheduler, CPU is only used when needed.
- Torrent support via Tranmission.
- FTP Server support via
SoloFTPftpd. - Supporting Open Source projects.
Known Issues
Due to Haiku OS's Alpha status, it is not intended to be used for production machines and hence, we too can not endorse that. But for those who dare to boldly go, here's what's not working so well:-- FAT32 drives when mounted for read write and read sometimes caused the OS to crash.
- Tranmission 0.7 can be flakey causing the torrents to pause and then other times, it works flawlessly.
- ftpd uses blank password. Hello security?
SoloFTP has to be manually put "online". Shame :(- WebGUI is in it's infant stages. iPhone based interface being created in parallel.
